A M.F.A. Graduate from New York University, where he was an Elizabeth T. Booker and Starworks Fellow, Scott Bailey is pursuing his PhD in Creative Writing at Florida State University, where he is an Alexander May Ryburn Fellow.
He has served as a writer-in-residence for the Mississippi Arts Commission and for the Valparaiso Foundation in Spain, and he has conducted poetry workshops at New York University, at the St. Mary’s Hospital for Kids, The Ronald McDonald House, The Harrison County Adult Correctional Facility, at the Forrest County Juvenile Detention Center, and at the New Orleans Center for the Arts.
And some of his readings include, The New York Quarterly Reading Series, The Bend, Don’t Shatter Reading Series, The Saint-n-Sinners Literary Festival, The Montevallo Literary Festival, and The Words and Music Festival.
His work, including his translations, have appeared in the journals: “The Adirondack Review,” “The Cortland Review,” “Chelsea,” “Exquisite Corpse,” “Harpur Palate,” “Indiana Review,” “The Journal,” “Meridian,” “New York Quarterly,” “Poems Niedergnasse,” “Poetry International,” “Prism International,” “Segue,” “Southern Quarterly,” “Southeast Review,” “Verse Daily,” “2 River Review,” and “42 Opus;” the anthologies: Bend, Don’t Shatter (Soft Skull Press), Poetic Voices Without Borders (Gival Press).
His poem “Why Should I Stand for Jesus” appeared in “Harpur Palate” as a Finalist for the Milton Kessler Memorial Prize for Poetry. He has forthcoming work in “New York Quarterly” and “West Wind Review.”
